I’ve been on the lookout for a model 10, they’re starting to get a little crazy on pricing though...

What’s wrong with a Model 10 for SD?

It's a handgun that's been in production longer than the 1911 platform, Smith & Wesson still sells it from their catalog in their Classic Line, and conservative estimates show that S&W has made over 6 million of the darn things.
Yup. Standard LEO service revolver for a lot of officers back when.

In DAO form, it's probably one of the best choices for a novice that isn't going to shoot or train much. Easy and obvious admin handling.

Also, it's the first handgun that I ever shot ( 4inch HB ) many decades ago...

Nothing at all wrong with it for defensive purposes in the home or in a vehicle. It's a solid 6 shot revolver that if loaded with quality .38 Special ammo will do the job just fine. Unless you find a 2", they're a little big for most folks to cart around though. I did it for a while with a 4" as one of my first carry guns and it's doable, just not easy.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

They "only" made 6 million Model 10's...

It was "only" the most popular/common law enforcement revolver of all time...

So there are plenty in circulation. Not suprising that they would show up now that non-gun people are coming out to practice with something they probably inherited from grandpa. But I think that is kinda OPs point.

I got a 1968 model 10-5. It had a beautiful finish at one time. I really want a 2" model 10. Incredibly smooth trigger. S&W doesnt make triggers like that anymore.

S&W M10's are more than capable for self defense. Millions were manufactured and used by Police departments all over the country for a very long time.

People forget revolvers were king of handguns up until the 1980's and have been in use for self defense purposes for well over 100 years.

I have 2 model Smith Wesson Model 52s. They are strictly target guns. Very accurate, but picky on ammo. The ammo for them is just not very plentiful today. I used to reload for them. Better than nothing, but a Model 10 can use real 38 special defensive ammo.

Ok, maybe I should have said odd and/or old firearms. It was more that it was this 60ish year old man's father's Model 10 originally and he dug it out when all the craziness happened. I agree a Model 10 would be a perfectly fine defensive gun.

The odd was the FIE Titan.

I'm wondering what else is going to show up.

I'll take a model 10 anyday over a sharp stick and words.
