After you die they can go to him. He then inherits.

Note that magazines in excess of 10 rounds are illegal. I'm pretty sure those can't come in. The mags can either be left behind or "permanently" blocked to 10 rounds.

Are you asking whether you as a trustee can add the handguns to the trust res and then allow your nephew to physically take possession and transport them to California?

Yes. Are you an attorney? Have you dealt with this kind of question before? They would have to go through a FFL. I am guessing the trustee would have to take the guns to a FFL near me have the FFL ship the guns to a FFL in Ca.? Would a CA FFL accept the guns or can a CA FFL deny

Also, are you strictly asking about transferring possession to your California nephew after you pass on, or before?

Before you die. you cannot do an end run to get off roster handguns into ca. That won't fly. It sure looks like classic straw purchase. One of our legal eagles will be along to quote the law. There are several on here.

Straw purchases are illegal. This is after I die.

                      I’m not a lawyer, but I can’t see how it’s possible.

Probably should ask an attorney who specializes in trusts how this would be structured. I believe the trust is effectively the "owner" and you can name successor trustees to manage the trust upon your passing. It's all in the legalese, and it's a fairly specialized area of law.

Then no issues with trust if set up for your heirs or whoever you bequeath to when you pass.
