    Build registration

    Hi Gentlemen
I looked over the thread about registration and on other internet sources, as well - and I'm not any less confused about registration of 'Build Guns'
I'm wondering if someone can explain to me in simple terms what the process would be for registration of either an AR or a handgun if someone builds it starting with an 80% lower.
Or using a numbered stripped frame shipped to an FFL

I wanted to inquire at the FFL dealer but every time I go in there, there's a huge line.

Thanks - Enjoy the weekend of July 4th 2020!

No requirement to register if using factory serialized lower. If 80% you apply for serial number then put number on lower and machine then send pics and then assemble in either featureless or fixed mag. No more assault weapon registration. Why bother with 80%. That ship sailed years ago. Now you cannot sell 80% finished after completing. No upside

Meaning : If I ordered an AR lower from Aero Precision that is numbered (because that's all they sell) ... Then it will be shipped to an FFL and there is no reg or waiting period or inspection?

That's what it sounds like you're saying - Am I getting that right?

No if you order a lower must go thru dros. You do not register it with doj. It is done by ffl thru dros and 10 day wait applies.

For a 100% completed lower: There is a registration (which is a standard part of DROS), there is a 10 day waiting period (also standard) and the buyer should do an inspection, but there’s no need to send in pic to any .gov.

Do not confuse regular registration with Assault weapon registration, which is a different “layer” of registration & no longer available.

Slightly off topic, Where has OP been for the last 10 years to have such questions?!

            Assuming your build is featureless...

I thought that I'd be well off with the firearms I already have - revolvers and leverguns - and not really ever need a semi auto.
I didn't have to go to a range because I'd just shoot at my friend's place, so I sort of lost track of what's popular.
              It's something I'm re-considering

The ars have gone up since covid started used to find them for 400 bucks now closer to 600. I have new frontier polymer ar with a 16" upper for $450 here in LA. I built several 80% and registered prior to deadline. It is featureless.
