    Shotgun News subscription, worth it?

Any of you subscribe to Shotgun News? Is it worth it? Anyone else worried about what the mailman might think or say to someone else? Thinking about subscribing, but not crazy about the mailman knowing...Am I just being paranoid?

Yes I have a subscription. The amount of goodies it advertises is very nice. I get 3 per month.

      Good articles and vendor selection.
Classified section is a joke, and given current market conditions, you can't trust that anything that you see in print will actually be available when you try to order it.

      Subscription is a toss up

Nah- just go to Wal-Mart every couple of months and pick up a copy. It doesn't change much from issue to issue. The annual issue at end of year maybe worth having. Wal-Mart discounts the price on each issue....

A long time ago I did. They sell them at the barns and noble, don't worry about the mailman.

Maybe I am tarnished by memories of what used to grace the pages of shotgun New from the 90s, but for me it's just doesn't seem worth the price of a subscription anymore. Particularly living in California.

70% ads, 95% if you count the articles. I just renewed my subscription 'cuz you do get information as to what is happening in the industry. It's a Wish Book...

Of course there is (was?) Fred's rantings....

I would not worry about the mailman. He is, after all, a postal worker...

Just go to Walmart and read them while the wife shops. I liked them ten years ago, then they started getting skinnier. I was reading it in the late eighties.

The SGN ain't what it used to be, but it's still worth reading.

                  Screw the mailman!
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

Used to be better, in my opinion. I just let my subscription lapse after having received it for over 14 years.

I love getting Shotgun News, but it gets overwhelming after a while. I'll subscribe for a year, let it lapse for 3 or 4, then subscribe again. This has been going on for some time now, and I'm about ready for another round.

I recommend picking one fat issue per year and stashing it away. When you go and look at it 5 years from now, it'll bring tears to your eyes.

My mailman and UPS guy know all about my hobby.

Sometimes can be a good source for parts, some good writeups.
                        But cost way to much.
The rag is mostly paid add's so the cost to the consumer should be 1/2 to 3/4 of what it is now.
                        Saving my money for ammo.
But I will buy one every so often.

I subscribed back in the '90's. It made me want to get my FFL back when that was no big deal. Then that got to be a complete hassle so reading SGN just made me more pissed off since I couldn't just order what I saw there. Actually I remember when I was a kid (pre-GCA '68) I belonged to the NRA and used to see all the neat guns you could buy through the mail in American Rifleman. It sucks more and more the older I get. We have lost a lot of freedom over the past 40+ years.

I used to get it, but they were always getting lost in the mail and SGN said it had something to do with the way they printed my name? Never got it figured out and after about a dozen phone calls, missed issues, replaced issues I figured why bother. About 80% of the thing is the same week after week, I buy one once every month or so and that works for me.

SGN can be worth it. I've gotten several nice deals from there that were not apparent on the Internet. My CA94-40 was from the SGN deal at about $450.
