Gun Unloaded in a locked container. Loaded magazines can be in the same locked container (but be ready to be told they need to be separate).

^^^ Isn't there also some federal law about coming within 1000ft of a school with any firearm?

Gun Free School Zone - GFSZ; both CA (which does not care about long guns) and Federal; see the wiki http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/in...e_School_Zones

"California ignores long guns; Federal law requires long guns to be locked up in that 1000 foot zone."

                Thought that was the situation.

I use soft cases zipped shut. I don’t put guns in the bed of my truck; I keep them in the cab behind me.

Legally, you should have handguns in a locked container (like a range bag). So if you think you might get pulled over and have your vehicle searched without your consent (even though you’ve probably never had that happen and probably never will), then you should definitely put a little padlock on your range bag.

Yep, a tiny luggage lock is all that it takes to remain compliant.

i just lock everything. that way and any kind of wrong conversation happens if i get pulled over, i'm covered if for / during car searches, imho. not that i would have the incorrect conversation or do anything dumb, but safe is good. not worth having to map your route to avoid gfsz. but.. ymmv

i bought those small 4pc same key master lock pad locks if i have more than one bag. makes life easier. if i could've found an 8pk, it'll be better.

p.s. if you have suv and have the trunk cover, use it. i use it all the time to prevent any peering eyes even with factory tint.

I have a locking gun vault inside my Jeep Wrangler. I'm beginning to carry an AR under the back seat in a soft case, just "in case".

Too many SJW's out there looking for a fight like that woman on TV today. Too many protesters, not enough law enforcement.

If you are looking for a helping hand, you have two on the ends of your arms.

Usually thrown in the back seat with mags tumbling all over the truck.

                            Transport gun

                            what about this scenario?

-handgun with a cable lock through its action.
                            -loaded mags or speedloaders/speedstrips.
-both together inside a locked pistol case? instead of a separate locked case for the loaded mags or speedloaders.

i understand that loaded mags need not be in a separate container, im trying to balance least legal hassles with greatest ease of use.

second question: are loaded speedloaders/speedstrips for a revolver treated by california law the same as loaded magazines fir a semiauto pistol?

sorry if im splitting hairs, just trying to best understand my options traveling in california. thanks.
