Real Avid .223 Multi-Tool - thoughts?

I need a carbon scraper for my AR15 & also think it prudent to have some firearm-specific tools on my plate carrier, so I figured this might be a good idea. It seems useful enough & like it has a good variety of handy tools, in one little package.

I also like all the included bits on the sheath.

I have a few items from Real Avid, really like their stuff, and they seem to make great gear overall.

It's down ~$12 from when I first looked at it too, so I'm sorely tempted.

Talk me out of it.

yikes 72 bux I think it's a bit steep, especially if all you need is a carbon scraper. for cheaper you can get their specific carbon scraper tool, 20$.

Some of the things there I see as redundant, such as the knife or pliers

Again; I want to have a multi-tool on my plate carrier (general preparedness, not LEO) and I figured I might as well get this that has firearm-specific tools.

I think it's also got a front sight adjustment tool....and all the different bits....

It's actually competitively priced compared to other multitools from Leatherman, Gerber, SOG, etc.

I guess I missed that part of the requirement. Still, being realistic here, and since you asked us to talk you out of it, but I would venture that a simple and cheaper multi tool is all you need. If I were out in a SHTF mission I would probably have my irons already sighted in and unless I plan to shoot 1000 rounds not worry about the carbon scrapper or other cleaning aspects. Any cleaning I need could be done with the cheaper multi tool and maybe a boresnake that I store in the butt stock

I vote USA. Gerber Short Stack. Or the Leatherman MUT if you need the plier.

Negative on SOG, 100% imported stuff nowadays.

Leatherman or Gerber multi tool du jour.

Leave the carbon scraping to a piece of fired 556 brass. Look around on the ground and pick one.

Sighting in tool? 556 round. Drop oil on the front sight if it's sticky or refuses to turn.

There I saved you money.

I think you're right; I'll stick with a known, better quality / solid multitool like Gerber or Leatherman.

I might get something like this as I do think having a dedicated scraping tool to get into all the little crevices would be nice:

Gerber short stack gets my vote for its ingenuity. Most negative reviews are by people who cant figure out how to separate it apart (push the common lug with your finger while gripping outermost tool).
