Renting a room

I find myself in a situation where it is likely I will be renting a room in a house or apartment and will have housemates I haven't known too long. They work at the same place I do so I know they will be somewhat sane, but not necessarily how they feel about firearms etc.

Moral debates aside as I can wrestle with that on my own, Is there any legal obligation to inform them or the landlord that I have firearms? Is it any different for a BBRAW

P.S. For those that are inevitably going chime in, regardless of what I choose to say, the firearms will be hidden as best as possible and locked to prevent unwanted access, just as they are currently.

Depends how much firearms you have, I would get small Storage room for it.

1- landlord - no right to know
2- if within 1k of a school, look up laws for driving in a school zone

3- roommates
In the past, some I told, some I did not
Get a cheap safe- it does not need to be anything fancy
Screw it into the wall studs inside your closet

From my experience, with private renters and management companies, they never cared as long as you are responsible. If it is a handgun, I would not worry but if you have lots of guns, need a good fixed safe and ask if you can bolt it to the ground.

I would think your obligations are restricted to what is stated in the lease. Past that, I'll assume you possess those firearms legally, as such just exercising your 2A.

I would be concerned about any "friends" of your housemates passing through here and there.

I am moving in with a roommate I k know and trust, but I got a 12 gun liberty safe. Always better safe than sorry.

If you're not allow to bolt it to the floor, than place it the the "deep" part of the room with items like your bed, desk, etc. between it and the door. Also cover it at all times and DO NOT tell anyone whats inside. If anyone asks, just say "important papers".

You can take it with you when you move.

I would recommend not telling anyone unless they are at least 50 years old. Any younger than that and they've been brainwashed by the school system. Be sure to hide EVERYTHING gun related, ammo, targets, camo speedos, etc.

I actually agree with this statement. We not longer live in a MYOB era. So unless your friends are of the same mindset as you, which I doubt because then this wouldn’t be a question, then I would not make mention of any guns... And invest in a safe, maybe one that is under the bed? Is that a thing?

When I had roommates sometimes I kept my guns, sometimes I didn't. Depends on how much partying was happening. Never told anyone, kept my room locked, kept the lockbox hidden. Just locking your room door should discourage honest folks from indulging their curiosity.
