I foolishly put a jug of water on a shelf above a large box of ammo, the jug developed a leak, and 600 rounds of Wolf 7.62x39 8M3 ammo got soaked. I have removed all of the rounds from their damp cardboard boxes and spread it out to dry on a table in my backyard. I can see rust on most of the steel casings. Is this ammo ruined? Would it be dangerous to shoot this or would it damage my AK if I used it? Thanks for any advice.

Well okay! Good to hear I was afraid it was a total loss. I'll try a few rounds.Comment

Run it through a brass tumbler for a couple hours and it'll probably be OK. Aside from that, I would not shoot rusty/damaged ammunition through my gun(s). It's hard to imagine being so poor that I'd need to risk a firearms worth hundreds of dollars just to save a dollar or two firing damage ammo. If there's any question about it - pull it down for components.Comment

Any idea how long was it was wet? Was it tap water or purified? Laquered steel case ammo should not corrode quickly from just water but the cardboard may have added some acidity.Comment
