If it is threaded it is not CA Compliant, plain and simple.

Edit: LCI, didn't even know that as a thing. I deleted mine before I even shot it.

You probably should just contact the manufacturer...I think there is a difference between the cali compliant barrels and the rest to accommodate lci flag, but agency arms and others have the same profile as the cali compliant ones.

The only thing off the top of my head that would make a semi automatic pistol barrel non compliant would be a threaded barrel that you planned on installing in the firearm but I'm not a lawyer.

For the S&W Shield CA version, it has a LCI (loaded chamber indicator) flag on the top of the slide.

For the off roster version, no LCI, but it has a peep hole where the slide and barrel meet on the back edge.

Since the question has been answered I’m going to go asked a different question about the Shield.

Mine is a non-California gun and a very early one, 2013 build I believe. I bought her new and she remains bone stock, gotta say it has the best M&P 1.0 stock trigger I’ve ever felt.

But it also has the tightest chamber on any 9mm I’ve ever owned, I use it to test my 9mm reloads and most of the time I can’t crimped the rounds enough without over crimping to get a nice plunk and free release from the chamber. Even though the rounds are tight they usually work fine. But yeah a really tight chamber in a gun I wouldn’t expect to have one. I’ve own or have owned 9mm in Glock, CZ, Sig, S.A. Canik, and others none had a chamber that tight even my 9mm 1911 wasn’t that tight.

I own a finish reamer in 45acp and have used it in a few of my 1911s that had too tight or short chambers, but I expect that to be an issue with some 1911s, there’s a history of that with them. But since the shield seems to run fine with my reloads and the cost of a finish reamer is not cheap and I don’t think I’d ver get another 9mm that I’ll need it for I’m in no hurry to get one.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this or if it’s just my Shield.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

If you get the Apex block, you can use an aftermarket barrel since the Apex block doesn't extend into the barrel area. You can see it installed in the thread in my signature, but here it is also:
