    Vacuum sealed in grease?

I’ll be escaping (or retreating, take your pick) to a free state, so I’m taking inventory, organizing, and packing. Been trying to consolidate my guns and related stuff, but it’s just too much for me to fit where I need it to fit.

Long story short, I need to pack up some guns and tools this week and they won’t be seen or touched for 2-3 months. No temp control, no humidity control, nothing. I need it to withstand some very hot and humid conditions for at least a month (likely longer).

Have you ever vacuum sealed guns? Outcome? If you think I’m stupid and have a better idea, please share.

Clean and oil wouldn’t be enough?

clean, oil, (wear gloves to avoid getting hand oils/salts on them), and pack with desiccant packs.
edited to add: I have vacuum sealed many things for long term storage. Pack with desiccant

Rig grease has been recommended to me by folks in wet climates. I have it on a shotgun that never gets used. So far so good.

        Brownells has it.

some bore store gun socks would probably be fine. that would let it breathe. just clean and oil everything.. 2-3 months isn't long.

Funny you mention this. Just last week I was going through some stuff I had in storage and I found 2 homemade AK's that I forgot I had. They were dissembled in a sealed piece of 6" PVC. They were in there for over 5 years just with a little oil on them and some desiccant. I was honestly a little worried as I cut the cap off because they spent the last several hot summers and cold winters untouched. They were in perfect shape minus some handling marks.

Way over kill. Just oil them and store them in cardboard or similar. If you have some silicone sleeves that would be great after oiling them.

                2-3 months isn't a long time.

I did the same thing last year. The one thing I wish I did was buy renaissance wax and waxed everything before I left. I oiled everything well so I avoided rust on the guns but didn’t oil my reloading press and dies. Everything that says hornady on it has rust. Rcbs and Dillon stuff is rust free.

Lotta oil never hurt ANY gun.

Just clean that barrel THOROUGHLY before shooting.

I do vacuum seal guns and ammo, as long as the vacuum holds so far I have not found a limit on how long they can be stored. I used just plain old food saver bags or sometime the green VCI bags polygunbags sell.

Might be convenient for moving. Oil up, vacuum pack and wrap some bubble wrap around it.
