because the political powers to be wanted to demonstrate for future justification their right to shut down every aspect of your life without permission from you. Church and state shall remain separate yet somehow the political tyrants just stepped in and shut everything down and the American sheep allowed it to happen. They could have negotiated for social distancing and masks but they chose to just use their storm trooper (i am sorry I meant police) jack boots under newsom's control to take your right to go to church away. i guess he was trying to show he was stronger than God.
