When a gun store takes possession of a gun from a private seller, they have to hold onto it for 30 days before they can transfer possession to the next guy. That is why you payed for it in May. You will start your dros on the 11th after the shops 30 days are up.
Thank California and their attempts to prevent stolen guns from being legally sold by unknowing FFLs.Comment

Your ten day period will start on the 11th of June, you may have to go to the store to initiate the DROS on the 11th, the store should have let you know.Comment

Gun has to be in their possession for 30 days to clear and start dros. Turners has lots of guns for sale like that same rules.Comment

CA pawnbroker law requires used guns that the store acquired to HOLD the guns for 30 days before they can be sold.Hi everybody, i am new to buying preowned and please kindly enlighten me with the process.
I recently went to a gun store to inquire a handgun and was told that they are out of that handgun. I decided to look around and check on their accessories then the salesperson offered me a preowned handgun that made me interested. I inspected it and made me decide to purchase a on-roster preowned handgun last May 21. Included in the receipt are the DROS and the handgun amount plus tax. This is going to be my 3rd gun since my last purchase on same gun store 3yrs ago(Its my 2nd purchase in that gun store). I was told by that since its a preowned that they bought, the processing will start by June 11 and pickup date will be June 21. At this time, its the 16 days since i purchased the handgun. I’ve been searching for a thread and google if there is a process a gun store to delay submitting DROS for a used handgun tho i cannot find any unless my search words used are not the correct one. Does any of you, or dealer, familiar with this kind of process? I know that waiting time is 10-30days. When is the waiting time starts? Is it on the date of purchase or the date they will start the process(June11)?
This is done to give TIME for the guns to be reported stolen if they were recently stolen.
It sounds like they pulled the gun out and showed it to you before the 30 days was up and they were not able to START the DROS until after the 30 day HOLD is done.
Some shops will do that while other shops will keep the 30-day-hold guns hidden until the 30 days is up so that there will not be a delay like you are experiencing.
The DROS takes a minimum of 10 days but can NOT be started until after the 30 days.
Sounds like they took the gun in around May 11th.Randall Rausch
