Open carry on my property question...

Can I open carry a handgun in my garage, that is attached to my home, with the garage door open? Can anyone cite laws regarding this?

    Thanks

Your home includes your garage and all property including the land. Some states extend this to your parked car out side of your property. Say on the curb.

FAQ - please read the wiki, http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/in...oncealed_Carry

Short answer, probably OK in your garage, but might still generate 'man with a gun' calls that LE must respond to.

Exactly where your house and garage might be located will have a lot of influence on the legality; cities will be weirder. Unless your front yard might be fenced and gated, probably not legal to carry there without CCW.

My garage faces the street, it’s part of the front of the house. No fence just a driveway, sidewalk and then street. I have my CCW but I didn’t think it applied to open carry in my home. Thanks for the information, I will check it out.

If you have a CCW why would you open carry on your property where you can be seen by anyone on the street?

Because a visible gun is a deterrent to the cowardly pr***s that are roaming around destroying and looting property, not to mention the home invasions.

Kinda depends on where you live.
                Legal? Yes.
                Causing headaches for yourself? Possibly.

how about adding an opaque garage door screen? allows fresh air, some light, but not enough clear visibility to allow karen to discern your evil, scary, o.c. handgun. something like this, but there are many choices out there:

If those things were occurring, one wouldn't be worried about how you were carrying a gun.

If that's happening in your neighborhood, then open carrying just made your house a primary target. You also just lost the tactical advantage. They will come prepared when you least expect it.

Being armed in front of your business with your armed friends and backup on the roof is smart. Being armed in front of your house without backup is not smart.

It also advertises to everyone who sees you that you have a gun and are armed. I wouldn't do it. Run under the radar and, if necessary, show it only if the circumstances warrant it.

INSIDE your home, no need for CCW. Carry open or concealed as you like. Your garage should count as 'inside'.

But in those areas where the public has unrestricted access (e.g. UPS guy, mailman, meter reader) you need that CCW to carry at all, unless your property is zoned for hunting so guns would be OK.

You make perfect sense. It was more of a technicality question.

If you were worried about people destroying your property why would you have the garage door open except to drive in or out?

If you are standing in the open garage with dangerous people around, I would worry more about your judgement to do that than whether it's legal to carry an exposed gun.

Shut your garage door and lock the rest of the doors and windows.
