    Shooting Range in Santa Barbara?

    Hi Guys,

First of all apologies if i've posted this in the wrong section (admins, feel free to move it).

Ok, I'm on vacation in California (from Ireland) and having a fantastic time here. What I'd like to do is visit a shooting range and hopefully try out a few different types of weapons that aren't permitted at home. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to turn up on a range and hire some weapons and shoot or would I have to bring my own weapons? (bringing my own isn't really an option)

I'm in Santa Barbara for another week or so and would ideally like to find something close by but I could travel if needed...

    All opinions and advice welcome!

Winchester Gun Club is likely closed until the fire is more contained. Highway 158 was closed recently, due to the fire, and that's the only way up there.

The other alternative, is what we call the "glass factory" (much too much trash shot to pieces and left there). But that is found even closer to the fire zone, making it a total no-go.

Far West or Dodge City can give you good directions (Dodge City is on the way, and a better store)

Too bad you got to SB during a bad fire, the city is one of the more beautiful ones in California....especially when nobody is burning up.

....not to mention all the pretty college girls

    heh heh

But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

WCGC is open, and to the public on the weekends, have to bring your own.

Road to Glass Factory is closed because of the fire, have to bring your own.

Shooter's Paradise in Oxnard, indoor range, call and see if you can rent from them, 1 hour south.

What are gun laws like in Ireland? Hope you get in some range time on your vacation?

gun laws at home are very very tight. you can get licensed for shotguns and .22 rifles providing you have enough land, about 50 acres, (or permission from 2 people with the rquired amount of land to shoot on their land). Handguns are illegal. The police at home dont carry guns either.

Its all very controlled as up to about 15 years ago there were a lot of paramilitary groups (mainly the I.R.A)who had a lot of heavy duty kit. It turns out they had everything you could imagine, right up to stinger missiles
