COD transfer for firearm?

I have a guy in Michigan that want's to buy my Shotgun using COD (cash on delivery).

I will be shipping the shotgun to his FFL.

He is buying the shotgun for $2500, so I need to know if anyone has done this and whether or not it is OK to transfer the gun this way.

I see no legal issue as long as it is going to an FFL and your courier is facilitating the COD (nothing legal required about that second part, I personally just wouldnt do it unless courier is guaranteeing the transaction). If you are truly concerned, try to get him to do a postal money order. Far more secure.

*Important* make sure your carrier is accepting CASH only and NOT a money order. Money order could be faked and you liable for the funds + you'd be out the shotgun. This could be a new version of the Nigerian scam.

I've been reading up and I am NOT going to do the tranfer this way.

My reasoning is:

Even if he had a 10 day waiting period in order to pick up the shotgun, I would have to wait for the money order to get back to me, then I would have to wait for the funds to "clear" at the bank.

No way I am going to wait for that!
