No you don't. I still use my non real id DL and my passport card for both ammo and firearms. Just drosed another one over the weekend. Works fine.

I just renewed my DL. My old one did not have 'Federal Limits Apply on it. My new one does.

I guess I'll have to bring more paperwork to purchase ammo and firearms now. :/ Real ID date has been extended 'til 10/2021 I believe but you can't GET one right now b/c it's an in-person process and the DMV is shuttered.

I buy ammo and dros with my federal limits apply and my passport no problems. Why pay extra for real id when your passport is much more versatile and good for ten years.

I proudly use my illegal alien California driver's license for everything here. Most never look that close. If they do I pop out the passport.

I never needed the passport to pick up ammo I ordered.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't DMV start issuing Real ID's in 2018 and DL's are good for 5 years?

Surprisingly, I went into the dmv on a weekday in San Francisco and was in and out in 15 mins for my real ID. No line at all. Worth to get just because you don’t have to carry around extra documents or identification.

No. That is for flying and not yet in effect.

If you have a CDL that "DOES NOT SAY FEDERAL LIMITS APPLY" on top right, that is a valid ID for buying a gun and ammo. Of course you need a proof of address like a car registration or a utility bill with address matching your CDL for a gun purchase.
