    Dueling Tree Angle?

My Daughter is home from school due to the Covid-19 and I have been working from home. We have a small range at the house and my daughter has really gotten into pistol shooting since she is home. We have been doing a lot of shooting together.

So, I decided that this would be a good time to add a dueling tree to my little home range. I bought the paddles and the pipe hinges and I have lots of steel that I can make the stand out of. The only thing that I cant figure out is what angle the tree needs to be. I know that it needs to lean forward but just don't know the angle.

Do any of you guys know the proper forward lean angle of a dueling tree?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

My dueling tree stands vertical. Every other one I've seen is also designed to stand perfectly vertical.

A little forward tilt should help the paddles swing cleanly to the other side and stay there, or on a weak-hit, fall back to a shootable position.

It's annoying when you weak-hit a paddle, it doesn't swing to the other side, and just stays hidden behind the center post.

You haven't seen many dueling trees then. Two of the major manufacturers, Action Targets and Salute Targets are angled as are many others.

Mine is also about 10 degree (Salute)

Ok, sounds like 10 degrees is a good place to start.

              Thanks for the input.

I guess the one's I've seen have a better design. The paddles go into a piece of tubing that is cut at an angle so, the paddle gets hit and has to climb up a little as it is swinging, when it hits the midpoint, it is also the top of the angled pipe so, it starts dropping back down as it passes the midpoint of the swing.

This guy said he built it at 18-20 degrees. Sounds high, but worth checking out.

Note: I only watched the first 2-3 minutes.

I went with 10 degrees, I will try it out and if I need to adjust it I will. Thanks for the help guys.

Here is a picture, it still needs to be painted.

Design a stand that can be mounted vertically for a dueling tree and horizontally for a plate rack.

My home built one came out at 13 degrees with the removable base.
                          Works well.
I think the forward angle is more to help reset the target so they dont get stuck in mid swing.
