If you're shot at the range..

When dialing 911 do not say you've been shot. State that there's been a training accident. Reason being if there's a shooting LEO will be sent to secure the scene prior to medical personnel delaying your treatment. This was told to me at a recent 2 gun event. Made sense.

The scene will have to be secured regardless of what you tell dispatch. It's going to bring a lot of law enforcement before EMS goes in.

If true, please disregard my post.

I would simply tell the 911 operator there was an accidental gunshot wound.

August is correct. LE will secure the scene before EMS is allowed in to treat.

This is why you need to be prepared to render aid to the victim. The ABCB's rule: Airway, Breathing, Circulation, and Bleeding control.

No mention of making sure there's a tourniquet (amongst other first aid gear) in your range bag or on your wearable gear?

I have two CaT-7's on my chest rig, and two more in my range bag.

My range is remote enough that the emergency instructions provide the GPS coordinates to have a medical helicopter land on the 550 yd range for GSW.

So would it be faster to get them out of the range and away from firearms? Drop them on the street somewhere the EMS would feel safe.

Why not just state that someone has been seriously injured and is bleeding or whatever and leave out the "how" details.

I occasionally do camp/shooting trips out in the desert and was considering packing a couple of smoke grenades. If a helicopter is sent to evacuate some one in my group I could pop smoke when I see the helicopter to guide them in.

The 911 operator is going to ask how the injury occurred. Leaving out information is never a good idea.

                          Good Advice.

                          Carry one in Range Bag
One in each first aid gear bag of vehicles

EVERY time we were called out to an incident involving ANY firearm related injury we staged somewhere down the road and waited until LE secured the scene & weapon. Standard SOP for FD/EMS.

Don't signal with smoke. Use a strobe. Day/night use.

Send someone to the street entrance to wave in LE/EMS.

What if the injury is from a "kaboom" like obsructed barrel or over pressure ammo? Still send LE to clear prior to EMS ?
