Between toilet paper and ammo, I'm starting to get a little nervous. I'm in Sonoma County and .223 is very scarce. Anyone know where I can get a couple of hundred rounds of .223 or 5.56? Also - I thought I would order some ammo online. Can't do that in Cali. This is getting stupid.

Got Ammo?

you can order ammo online, but it has to be sent to an FFL/ammo vender first, then a background check.
Or you get a FFL03 and COE and can order ammo online and sent directly to your address.Comment

Brick & mortar shops are tight on everything. My favorite little shop is limiting customers to 100rds of 5.56 per person.

Ordering ammo on line, key points:
- Must have a local FFL who will accept ammo for transfer to you
- The on-line vendor will ship to CA to the FFL you chose.
- The local FFL will likely charge a fee for the transfer; can be any amount they want to charge.
- The local FFL will also charge CA sales tax, plus the $1 background check fee.
A further thought: When you pick up your ammo at your CA FFL, be sure to buy something like targets, cleaning supplies, etc., as a show of good faith. A little goes a long way.
As mentioned, if you have an 03FFL and COE, you can have ammo shipped to your door. Those have fees from ATF and CA DOJ, and the COE must be renewed annually. Unless you purchase lots of ammo, the cost for the 03FFL and COE may not be worth it.

Its been stupid for a LONG time. But its still getting stupid-er.
As mentioned above, you can order ammo online and ship to your FFL. That's the easiest way to go. You can also check the marketplace here to buy ammo privately from other members... but you also have to do that through an FFL.
Though you may be an honest, hard-working, tax-paying, ethical human being; the state of CA does NOT trust you to defend yourself! If your a degenerate scumbag who's always on the wrong side of the law, you can just buy ammo on the street... As much as you want... no background check needed.iTrader: 52 transactions, 100% positive.Comment

FFL
Can a private citizen have an FFL? Or do you need to have a legitimate firearms business?----------------------------------------------

An FFL 03 would probably be your best option. The keys to the kingdom are open with that.sigpic

If you don't go the FFL 03 route, most online ammo vendors will have a list of LGS/FFLs that will receive ammo in your area. The key is finding one with the lowest fees and currently providing the service during the lockdown.
Due to COVID-19 some FFLs have suspended ammo transfers temporarily, but others haven't.
Often LGS/FFLs will have their fees listed in their websites and if they've temporarily suspended ammo transfers. Just as an example ammo transfers here in North Los Angeles County start around 10 bucks.
Just do a google search, touch base with the FFL you've chosen, and order away.
The initial effort is worth it. Once you start a business relationship with an FFL you'll have access to much better online ammo deals, rare loads, and firearms you won't normally find stocked on gun store shelves.Comment
