IS this a good idea? Is is going to hurt anything?

I have been thinking if somebody were to break into my house while my family is home and catches me off guard and forces me to open my safe, should I have a locked and loaded glock in the safe ready to go, with one in the chamber? So if I am forced to open it for them I can grab quick and fire away, Of course this is best case scenario that it would go down this way to where I would have this opportunity, Does this hurt anything as far as the glock is concerned having it cocked and ready to fire and just leaving it that way for months on end for emergency situations? just curious if that would mess up the springs or anything?

I don't believe it does, but I'm not an expert.

However, why do you have a defensive weapon if not to protect yourself. So assuming no other issues (the danger that someone might get into the safe and hurt someone else for example), why wouldn't you want the tool as ready as possible for its intended purpose. And even if the tool is damaged, that just means you have to repair it or buy a new one. In the case at hand, an excuse to buy a new tool is rarely a bad thing.

I'd say just have it on you and ready while you're home.

I have one hidden in about every major room in my house, like I said, if caught of guard to where you didn't have time, I was just wondering if having it cocked and loaded would mess anything up in the Glock, just because I am not familiar with the Glock internals, firing pin, springs, ect, just making sure it would be ok...

No criminal is going to let you pull open that door before them.

They already thought of this scenario. An how it would work out for them IMHO.

But, you do, what you got to do. Nobody will look out for you, like YOU will.

Imagine a Samurai afraid to use his sword because it might get scratched.

More like, a samurai asking on CalSwords.net whether it's okay to sharpen his sword every day.

OK, let me get this straight, you have firearms that are not loaded hidden through out your house? Or, if they are loaded, why are you worried about a loaded Glock wearing itself out setting in the safe?

Leaving your Glock in that condition won't harm it. In fact that is the most common condition for one to be left in. Unless you unload it then pull the trigger, the striker is in the exact same position whether it is loaded or unloaded.

You're worried about people breaking in when you aren't ready. How about people breaking in when you aren't home and finding all the guns around the house?

The only scenario that I can imagine where an intruder is forcing you to open your safe is if they are armed and already have you or a family member at gunpoint. If this is the case then there's not a lot you can do. Once you open the safe they are not just going to stand there and let you reach inside so forget about that.

Don't forget the hidden gun in the toilet too

(I know your scenario is very very unlikely, and like others have stated the bad guy won't let you get to the inside of the safe before he does - but I'll admit I've thought about that scenario too. We've all thought about a little right?? Like we've all had the dream with the 50 lb trigger pull on your home defense gun when you need it the most)
