When will the ammo craze stop?

Aside from the people opening their eyes that the folks they put in the gov't are slowly removing their rights on the cover of "we don't need to stinking firearms to defend ourselves?", and opposing/voicing what they're trying to do??? Aside from that, I don't know. No one will stop buying and storing ammo given the horizon seems to be leaning towards "it's not about if, but about when." Might be hype, but many are falling for it. -
I'm already starting to see a return of things that were impossible to find not all that long ago.
.223 ammo is readily available these days, and pistol ammo - namely 9mm and .45acp is coming around with greater frequency.
I think what is/was happening - is people generally had a list of priorities based on what they think would get banned first. Since most people agree black rifles would be first on the list - anything black rifle related got snatched up ASAP. Most people who wanted to load up on black rifles and ammo to feed 'em - have already done so, so demand has begun to drop off and inventories are coming back around now.
Next up was handgun ammo - of which there's a much greater demand as handguns are much more common. There's still a huge demand for handgun ammo, but it is starting to show signs of life in the availability department. My guess is another 2-3 months and it'll be where .223/5.56 is today.
22lr was the next to take a hit - as once prices started soaring, everybody was looking for a cheap way to shoot. That's probably going to come back last - as even once supply in other types of ammo comes back regularly - it won't be until the prices drop that people will want to buy unless they have to.
Reloading supplies - namely primers - will take the longest to come back. The majority of primers go to new ammo mfg - so until ammo supply keeps pace with demand, or even better outpaces demand - primers are going to be very hard to come by.
My guess is like I said - it'll take a good 2-3 months before things calm down on the handgun ammo front a bit, a little while after that for .22 to be regular, and who knows for primers. In other words - things will start to even out just in time for ChristmasComment

let me think about it....
supplies will eventually catch up to demand. AR lowers are once again in stock and manufactured ammo is once again on the shelves.
however, i dont expect prices to drop back to pre-paranoia day prices. heck, i'm still waiting for the TEMPORARY bridge increase to return back to $2Comment

I see a bit more .223 and .40 cal out there (I just picked up 500 rounds of .40 cal at Wally World tonight) and my friend ordered five Bushmaster M4 uppers, from Bushmaster, four weeks ago and just got them. He even paid pre-election prices, $570 a pop.Comment

I think its any of a combination of factors:
-When people feel complacent or broke, they will stop hoarding. (the number of people I have seen at shows here and elsewhere suggest that this isnt the case yet)
-Manufactorers have stepped up their production big time, supply is probably starting to catch up to demand, hence the increase in availability. If their is a decrease in demand, manufactorers may not have enough time to respond, and we may see a dip in price to move some of the surplus.
-However, another thing to keep in mind is the looming inflation from all these bailouts. Inflation will certainly drive the price of comodities up, which will in turn affect production costs of ammunition.
Put all these factors together and it's anybody's guess as to when ammo prices may return to previous prices.Comment

The more we buy the more work load we are putting on the manufacturer, thus more workers needed to amp up product = raising cost.sigpicThe Mind is like a parachute it works best when opened - Frank Zappa
