Why would anyone buy a revolver?

Why do people buy revolvers? Is it a novelty? It seems that magazine loaded pistols are more practical in every single measure. Higher capacity, faster reloads, narrower, and I seriously doubt reliability is a pertinent factor. Modern high quality semi-auto pistols are very reliable. So what is it?

Considering the popularity of revolvers I am sure I will learn a lot from the responses.

Safety for a new shooter. Utter load and out away for 100 years reliability. No safety, no safety needed. I always put new shooters in a revolver for nightstand use.

In a high stress use, revolvers have a lot of advantages. They can't stovepipe or FTE. FTF drill is just another trigger pull. No safety to fumble with. you don't have to worry about limp wrist. There's a lot of reasons. Different strokes for different folks.

Growing up in the 50s every good guy carried a revolver. Autos were for the bad guys. Fast forward to the 80s and if you see a revolver it's in the hands of a bad guy.

Because the casings aren't left behind. That's why the thugs like them, I didn't want to mention that because this is not the thug crowd

Revolvers are simple. They go bang. You don't have to try to remember if one is chambered or you hit the safety. Grab and pull, bad guy drops.

Along with what's been stated above, can fire from concealment/pocket if bobbed or internal hammer, and won't go out of battery if pushed into something/someone

That makes sense. I guess for a minimally trained person who is not prepared to clear a malfunction a revolver would be better. Besides that, aren't automatics superior? The 1911 has a pretty good history of reliability.

My wife struggles a bit racking the slide on my glock. I know there are ways around it, such as gripping the slide, and then racking the frame forward..etc.

But in a urgent situation, I am not sure she has the muscle memory to do that. Revolvers are not an issue for her to load.

Plus with the Ruger GP100, when you are out of ammo, you can fling it like Thor's Hammer and whoever gets hit by it, will implode a violent and worthy death of my opponent. Throwing a glock would be tossing pebbles at a grizzly bear.

I have a hard time balancing that with magazine capacity. Glocks and Sigs don't have safeties. For range fun - yes, like a novelty item. It's fun but I'd rather have a Glock with 15 rounds than a six shooter in a self defense situation.
