I'm hoping somebody has been through this scenario and can provide an answer.
After talking to a gunsmith about a week ago I decided to ship them one of my handguns, along with a copy of my drivers license. Today they received my package and notified me they can't work on my firearm because of a 3 week backlog and my driver's license has an expiration date of 2013. The license is valid because of accompanying military ID, but I can't legally provide a copy of the military ID because the gunsmith isn't a government agency. Gunsmith is in Florida, I'm in Virginia, drivers license is issued by Utah. How do I go about proving the license is valid without violating the law? I called the ATF, but I'm still awaiting a response. Also called a friend at the USDOJ who is a gunsmith on the side. They also didn't have an answer, but is forwarding the question to another agent in his office so be knows the answer, too.
