    breaking in period...

i just finished building my very first AR-15, no accessorys added, yet.
was wonder if there is some kind of break in period when using it, like when you first buy a brand new car and break in the engine sort of speak. if so what should i be careful about, if any?

The break in period is between finishing the build and the time you finally get your rifle to the range and shoot it.

Seriously make sure you got rid of any foreign obstacles in the barrel from manufacturing/building process and then just shoot it.

yeah...just to be sure if the upper is new then clean the barrel. Any new gun I get I clean the barrel to make sure none of the manufacturers oil or grease is in there. This is what is recommended for any brand new Ruger 10/22 and I think some AKs. However do it for all...just incase. If the firearm is used then I don't worry much.

I just make sure the barrel is clean & the bolt wet! Also a good idea is to use a little compressed air down the gas tube to make sure no junk is hiding in the there.

              check list

              1) have gun.
              2) have ammo

check 3 (and the most important check)
              3) shoot gun

              4) inspect gun/clean gun

              5) repeat

You forgot to put the ammo into the gun. If you fail to do so the gun goes click. Of course do not check gun is loaded by looking down barrel. If you do so people will start calling you "One Eye" McGurk.

I just shot a new build (AR-15 5.56) this weekend, and it shot fantastic right off the bat. First 3 shots in about a 2.5 inch group at 50 yards with no scope.
                        Here kitty kitty...

you'll find 2 different thoughts on this. i can't find anything compelling over the other. so i subscribe the the thought of shoot the f out of it. i'm there to shoot (at the range), not run patches and brushes thru my barrel all day.
