    Army picks Vortex

The 1-8x30 Active Reticle Fire Control is a variable power, direct-view, first focal plane riflescope.

Which reticle are they talking about?

I thought the ACSS one was a sure in.

I've been impressed by Vortex and even have a couple, but my experience is that they are a bit heavier than they need to be. Little surprised that the Army didn't go with one of the old standbys ... then again the decision is clearly above my pay grade.

Makes me feel better about their 1x6 on my SPR.

That, and I'm buying a SPARC tomorrow, for my AR .22!

Sounds like something new with a range finder built in

They did not pick them for anything other than a chance to participate in evaluations with a bunch of other companies. This is nothing more than a press release from Vortex, not actual news.

an agreement to deliver production-ready prototypes of the NGSW-Fire Control for future Soldier Touch Point evaluations
Weapons officials are currently testing NGSW prototypes from General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems Inc., Textron Systems and Sig Sauer Inc. for the final phase of the NGSW effort, which is designed to replace the 5.56mm M4A1 carbine and the M249 squad automatic weapon in close-combat units with automatic rifle and rifle versions chambered for a more powerful 6.8mm round.
The Army plans to select a final design for both weapons from a single company in the first quarter of 2022
We have two more years before we know who they pick.

That's a terrible pic above, this one is much more spacey-looking:

It sounds a lot like SIG's BDX system, except the SIG setup uses a separate rangefinder and bluetooth's the data to the scope for a holdover. It wouldn't be hard to integrate that stuff since the BDX has been on the market already for a couple of years.

Take everything with a grain of salt. Militaries as well as law enforcement agencies also consider lowest bidders when awarding contracts. Bids also include things like training for armorers and replacement parts. Nothing you'll ever get from a private purchase.

All top end optics companies that build to milspec will work fine with civilian firearms and are likely overkill.

Looks like an FDE version of what the baddies used in "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen."

This is great so those people hating on vortex for not being milspec quality can eat it.
