cooldown period? When does it start?

LGS employee told me that cooldown period starts the day after you come in and choose a gun and do all the paperwork.

    When does it actually start?

    thanks for the replies!

It starts the time they summit DROS. It will have the time on the DROS paper work.

DROS is 10 24 hour days, no more no less. It starts the moment the dealer summits the DROS information to DOJ on line.

Store policy may differ from the law though. Basspro (at least the one in Rancho) will not allow firearm pickup until day 11.

Which once may have been a necessary precaution because of poorly trained staff, but I believe, beginning at some relatively recent date (2015?), the pickup date and time are printed on the DROS paperwork. No mistakes possible for people who can read numbers and dates.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

10 minutes, on a s-l-o-w day, and the PICS line is jammed. Here in America.

                maybe also:

Buy gun late in the evening, on day 10 store closes earlier than that.

IIRC, there was a complaint once here about the hour shift for daylight savings time messing up a pickup time since it is not 9 days and 23 hours.

I think looking on the DROS is best. It will tell you transaction date and earliest/latest delivery times, down to the second.

Are FFL's still backed-up? I would call and double check if time is available to pick-up. Think there was another thread, pick-up at one store is standing at 15 days.

It is 240 hours from the day/hour/minute the DROS was submitted to the system.

If it was submitted at 3:30 pm on 22-Apr, you won't be able to pick it up at, say 10:00 am on 2-May when the LGS opens.

Yup same understanding here, as well. It is to avoid people coming in the morning, say at 10am; when they can't pick it up until 5pm on the presumption that the DROS was submitted to the system at 5pm 10-days prior. So, instead of avoiding a mistake, confusion and/or arguments with the customer, an LGS will say just say 11th-day.

                      And...?

To finish rodralig's post... "you won't be able to pick it up at, say, 10:00 a.m. [on the tenth day]", you'd have to wait until 3:31 pm on that day.

                      Yer welcome!

I have been to shops in the past whose stated policy was 11 days. I asked why and got numerous answers, but the gist was to “protect ourselves”. Which I understand...I guess.

I just went somewhere else and only waited the ten 24 hour periods.

                          Sorry, not sorry.

Yes, for a standard DROS (Not off-roster, etc) the "deliver" button doesn't even appear until after the 10 days have elapsed. It can be longer though as we are seeing currently.
