    Northern Nevada BLM

Drove out there today to zero in a pistol. It was pretty busy, so I got the first spot that was open. It was the second shooting area on the right. I was about 75 yards from a shot up wood pile, facing towards the mountain, set up my table, eyes, ears, and a cardboard target about 25 yards out. So I was shooting for about 30 minutes when I saw a mountain biker stopped at about my 2 o’clock off his bike looking at me. I cleared gun weapon laid it on the table. He told me I should not be shooting here, there is a bike trail that I am on. Then he said it is people like you that give shooters a bad name. I told him that if he wants to bike across my down range to go ahead I will not shoot, or he can go down to the main road behind me and around. He said he is calling the sherif. I told him go ahead if that makes you feel better. So he road his bike across the area I was using as a range. Went about 100 yards to my 10 o’clock and stopped, looked like he was on his phone. So I proceeded to rezero in my pistol. He left the area, after 10 more shots I was done zeroing in and left. F’en mountain bikers. End of rant.

I’m in Winnemucca doing a shooting class on BLM for the next 3 days. What part of NV are you shooting at?

The first part of your post makes it sound like you were shooting in a designated / popular shooting area. Were you indeed shooting at an established shooting area?

It’s hard to imagine a designated shooting area that has an established multi-purpose trail running through it.

Or, was the biker correct? Were you shooting across or near an established trail?

Only you can answer this question.

      What is the answer?

That's not a catch all making it free to shoot anywhere. Californians regularly cause problems not knowing the rules out there as you probably know, and people are getting riled up about it.

FYI Spanish Springs is only partially open to shooting.

When he threatened me, and harassed me, I started getting hot really fast. Next time I will video the whole thing.

Basically anything East of Golden Eagle park is a "Congested Area".
If you encountered a mountain biker, you were likely in that area.

Do you have a map of where you were? Were other people shooting out there or was it crowded with mtn bikers?

My family and I hiked Zipper out there a couple of weeks ago. On the way down had to stop and tell the dumb ****s shooting right into us to hold fire. At the same time a mountain biker was riding up, stopped and had a conversation with them, told them it was not the best place to be shooting on the weekend.

If your not from around here, don't assume anything and if you want to play tough guy you're either going to get shot or you're going to get your face smashed.
