    Many manufacturers will pay to renew.
    There is still money to be made selling to Californians.
    No new semi’s will be added because of Micro stamping.

      OP this question comes up regularly from new gun owners or new CA residents. Consider using the search function

        All the guns on the roster are old. You, unless you are LEO, cannot purchase a Sig 320 or 365 or any of the new advanced, safer, more reliable and better engineered handguns. They will never get on the gun roster.

        So California is to gun what Cuba is to cars. We have an old and aging fleet of handguns and no new models.

        Any thoughts? I’m just wondering what gun owners think the roster will look like next year.
        You forgot to add US military folks that are California residents living out of state. The roster does not apply. So I would add LEO and Military folks on orders.

        While living in Alaska or Maine, as a California resident you could purchase full auto rifles and rocket launchers if you wanted to. Nothing California says applies while on US military orders living in those free states. You can purchase firearms with your California Driver License as well.

        So in summary, if you're a CIVILIAN and resident of California living in California then the roster applies to you.

        It also does apply to military folks stationed inside California and being a California resident but you know the minute they move out of California they can buy whatever they want.

          It's all of them. The fee is due annually, first business day of the year.

            Since 2001, here are how many dropped off the roster each year:

            2020 = 4
            2019 = 66
            2018 = 3
            2017 = 38
            2016 = 81
            2015 = 66
            2014 = 416
            2013 = 173
            2012 = 44
            2011 = 88
            2010 = 56
            2009 = 77
            2008 = 46
            2007 = 32
            2006 = 12
            2005 = 108
            2004 = 46
            2003 = 64
            2002 = 23
            2001 = 1

            In big drop off in 2013/2014, Para (bought out and moved), Smith and Wesson, and Ruger pretty much updated their product line. So they moved on with newer designed production.

            The 2019 major drop was Springfield, variation of the XD and mostly their N serial 1911's (they do not bring those in anymore).

            Yep, our roster is about 20 years old and 2-5 generations behind. The drop off is slowing down, only because not much left. I think half the roster is discontinued or special production only.

            You are correct. The only thing that will be added are new revolvers, because micro-stamping does not exist for semi-auto's. Actually, does not exist at all. Pay more for used off roster if you really want something and even then there is no guaranteed availability.

              What makes you think newer handguns are better engineered, safer, more reliable than older models? When I see new models I just think the manufacturer just figured out how to shave costs and they know some guy will overpay to have a something new and shiny. Pick up and examine a 60s built S&W, Colt or Browning and then tell me how much better the new ones are

                For plain 1911 and wheel gun guys..probably of little significance

                For rest of us,

                Let's see....

                Semi autos with factory RMR cut

                Gen5 Glock without finger grooves and ambi control

                CZ Shadow 2

                Sig M17

                M&P9 gen 2.

                Etc.

                  Most will renew. I had that happen to me in Dec when I was trying to get a Ruger Gp100 Match Champion. It showed the expiration was 1/1/2020 and between shipping and dros it wouldn't have made it. So I waited and checked every day until they renewed like 3 days before expiration.

                  They also can't afford to NOT to sell to Californians. We have 33% more people than Texas which is the next most populous state..

                  With almost 40 million people (according to 2019 estimates), California is the nation's most populous state—its population is much larger than that of second-place Texas (29 million) and third-place Florida (21 million).

                      This, although I think he gets the prize for asking earliest in the year.

                        This topic gets posted every year. New member though, so we're supposed to cut him/her some slack.

                            I appreciate posts like these. It reminds us all how controlling the legislation is in this state and why more people are moving out than into California
