Issue with fiber optic front sight...

The fiber optic sight on my shotgun (590A1 with ghost ring sights)) looks super bright when viewed from the side or off-axis, but when I'm actually holding the gun and aiming it literally looks like the light went out on the front sight.

    Thoughts?

Is the light source coming from the front of the sight?

No. Brand new. And I've installed several because I thought I may have done the installation incorrectly, but they're installed properly.

Doesn't matter what or where the light source is or where I am while aiming the gun in relation to the light source. The sun, indoor light, etc. Bright as heck off-axis, not so bright when aiming and looking through the sights.

Are you 100% positive that you reinstalled the front sight correctly? Looking at the pictures you posted it looks to be canted forward, it may just be a camera illusion though.

Vinnie, you can try replacing it with some new element. I've broken my share of them making adjustments (don't ask) you can try taking a little heat to it, that might clean it up a little. You can buy the stuff on Ebay if you know the size.

Sorry got side tracked. For the sights that I have replace the element on I cut to size (maybe a 1/32 long on both end) then take s little heat to it and the ends will ball up a little.

It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

The sight isn't installed incorrectly. It's a factory sight and there's a small channel the fiber is held in place by.

I've gone through an entire green element from Brownells. Ive replaced it several times thinking it may have been how I was installing it, but I've watched several tutorials and I', doin git correctly. Done it with a lighter, with a soldering iron, etc.

So if it's factory installed, why did you feel the need to mess with it? Especially if you've barely shot it if at all. I'm guess you got bit by the tacticool mall ninja bug.

Everyone knows that the factory never has installed anything wrong on a gun, right?

Had nothing to do with thinking the factory red fiber was junk. Just preferred green. Thanks for the douchey assumptions. Great contribution. Keep up the great work. Looks like we can’t all be as perfect and awesome as you. Pardon me for tinkering with my own firearm and asking a question on a forum where people ask questions and get advice from those that are more knowledgeable. Seems like you’re annoyed by people like me. So why even bother participating and replying to the thread?

Really? You should perhaps cool your own jets just a bit, try to actually learn something from people who have a lot more experience than you obviously do.

How many rounds did you put through it before you decided to change everything about the gun? I've personally put thousands of rounds through shotguns, handguns, carbines and subguns in instructors courses over 20+ years of being a LE rangemaster, armorer, but you're right I'm a douche who knows nothing. Carry on.

After telling everyone how much you know and how much experience you have all you had to offer in your first reply was an insult. Sounds like a douche to me.

Well that's sux. It sounds like you know what your doing.
Good luck sir, I hope you figure it out.

I'm going to toss a wild a** guess out for consideration... any chance the mount was installed backwards from the factory (didn't see any pix posted so I'm working blind).

Seems like the "light pipes" I've had were at least somewhat "directional" in the way they concentrated/conducted light towards the shooter end, and that's the only thing that comes to mind. "Factory" is not always a guarantee of proper assembly, I've seen "interesting" factory errors in every industry I've been in...

Hope maybe that helps solve the mystery, if not, feel free to ignore it! Always stinks when things don't work as expected, if you've got any pictures of the sight in question, maybe it might provide further insight?
