Is ordering ammo online cheap enough to make it worth it?

    Hello all,

I am considering getting a C&R FFL and COE because... it would be cool, but also to be able to order C&R rifles to my door, and ammo. Is ordering ammo online any cheaper than buying it in a store, after shipping and such?

I am considering getting FFL03 and COE also. Buying bulk online would be cheaper for sure but my main reason for getting them is to be able to buy online and deliver to my door.

Yeah that would be cool, also buying some of those old Soviet rifles with stuff carved into the stocks would be interesting, history in my hands.

Not in California you can't unless you buy in state. You may find that some out of state sellers will ship to you but you will be violating CA law and imperiling you FFL03 which requires you to comply with the laws in your state.

Good luck getting live scanned right now. 4 places around me (riverside) won't scan nobody cause the pandemic.

Not all online ammo places are willing to ship directly to you even with C&R FFL.

If I understand correctly, you won't have to pay CA sales tax on he ammo shipped to your house. Sort of a loophole there. That itself is a good saving. Now, that Walmart is out of game, online ammo savings can really be worth the cost of FFL03+COE

I just have to make sure I buy enough ammo to make the savings more than the cost of the FFL and COE... hooray!

Indeed, it depends on the volume and your brick-and-mortar LGS price ammo. Alternatively, you can start reloading. On the long run it may be more beneficial, but requires a hefty initial investment.
Also, depends on the calibers your shoot

C&R long guns shipped to your door ended 1/1/14.

You can still go out of state, pick up C&R guns there, bring them back and then register them with CA.

Thanks for that, I guess I'm not caught up. Well, I have to decide if it will make sense to pay for it just to buy ammo. Probably not, but I'll look at prices once things calm down.

Does anyone know if the process is easier if you are active duty military?

Yes, it is absolutely worth it. I have a Prime membership from Targetsports USA and it is really nice being able to have any amount of ammo shipped directly to my door.
