It's not just the Pinky to thumb that matters . Probably be easier to compare to glove sizes even then its bit hard to compare.

      What the hell, I'll play.

Length (wrist to tip of longest finger) - 7.50"
      Hand span (right) - 8.75"
      Hand span (left) - 9.00"

      Glove size - L (usually)

      For reference: height - 5'6"

When gun sites say "hand size" they usually mean "glove size". The measurements you posted have to do with both the length of your palms and fingers, but also the flexibility of your fingers. Flexibility isn't all that important to holding a pistol.

The width and thickness of your palms is critical for handgun fit, but is missing in this measurement.

I'm not sure of the standard measurements as I've never tried to fit someone to a handgun remotely. You could try places that have patterns to make your own gloves?

Shoe size 15” standby for other measurements. My hands are cold.

Yep, glove size is the benchmark.

Compared to the hands of most people doing what you're trying to do. Much like buying a shirt, sizes are based on what fits others in past sales.

I assume you're looking at pistols and trying to get something that fits comfortably in your hand? IMO, if you're not trying to fit an anatomical target grip, you'd be better off going to a shop and seeing what does and doesn't feel comfortable to you. I, for instance, prefer larger grips over smaller (to a degree, anyway.)

If you are trying to fit an anatomical grip, the main measurement is across the line of the knuckles at the base of the fingers (to fit the shelf-to-trigger and shelf-to-overhang dimensions.) Secondary measurements are wrist to finger tips for bulk of the grip), and wrist to base of fingers (for depth of the grip.) Once you get all that, usually you rasp and file and putty until you get it to where it works.

I could wear an XL glove but prefer the tightness of an L as it gives me better dexterity with small objects. I'm only 5'9 so I don't know what any of that means.

There's a reason they make guns with interchangeable back straps.
