Would you pay $700 for a book?

    Jane's Ammunition Handbook.

    Or $1200 used.

Goodness. That must be some very good information.

If it was the Gutenberg bible, or some long lost writings of Cicero, or something similar, then heck yes.

Buddy in college paid $500 for his Ceramic Engineering Handbook. It was THE book used for Ceramic Engineering courses (this was prior to Clinton cutting off funding for Ceramic Engineering research in the US in ~1994..essentially killing off the whole field).

I personally wouldn't pay for Jane's, but I'm not in the biz. I have however paid more for less book. That's an awful lot of nice paper for the money.

That's really crazy to pay $500 for a ceramics book. Was it the Kingery and Bowen book? What I did when I was in college and my daily meals consisted of 33cents cup-o-noodle twice a day, I bought the expensive books from the student union book store, copied the required chapters at the 3-cent copy place, then returned the book the next day. There would be no way I could afford $500 for a book.

when I was in college my professor dictated that we all would buy the book for the course and would be graded on if we bought it or not...he told us the reason it was importent was that he had written the book for the class and was making money for his retirement from the book sales and it was mandarory....yep you guessed it ......the class was a course on "Ethics" ....true story hard to believe but every word true.

I don't find it hard to believe, I've met some "interesting" professors.

The most I've ever paid for a gun book was $90 for this:

I will probably eventually pic up a few of the Jane's books, once I land a steady job. Firearm research is my primary hobby, even above collecting and shooting.

I had a similar event back in college. The freaking book was a supplement and it cost me $200.

                            Well, I've paid $1,600 for a pen...

...then again, I resold it for $2,500.

Ha, Checked the URL. I knew it. Mont Blanc.

Anyways, I understand that educational books such as the Jane's book are very specialized, but....why $700? The field of firearms is a lot larger than any specific class at a college. That means a lot larger market to sell too. Unless the book is specifically meant only for ammunition manufacturers. Who knows. I tell you what, I'd like to own it. If I had $700, or $500 just laying around I'd buy it.
