Serial number restoration/re-engraving?

Have an old 870 Wingmaster police trade in. Serial number is still there but faint. I eventually want to get the gun Cerakoted but need to get the serial number deepened or gone over so that it doesn't disappear during the refinishing process.

Anyone know of any companies in the Los Angeles/Socal area that can do this? I called a few and most of them won't touch serial numbers no matter what. I also have paperwork from the purchase.

Leave as is. I wouldn't tamper with a serial number

Could you have the serial number section masked off during the cerakote, that way it stays bare metal there?

You know, I bet the ATF might be helpful in determining what can and can't be done, and they usually put things in writing. Why not reach out to them?

Either contact the ATF or Remington, they're the only ones that have any legal way of addressing this.

Heat cured Cerakote lays down very thin. I have some guns with impossibly faint serial numbers from the factory, I mean the bare minimum legal depth - maybe not even that. I had them Cerakoted and it’s like nothing happened to the serial numbers at all. I was very surprised.
