Bench rest rifle shooting with one arm

I see most bench rest shooters using their trigger finger arm only and the other arm tucked away or holding the trigger finger arm.
    Why is that?

Wouldn't holding the rifle forearm with the other arm be more stable?

    Confused.
    Thanks

Their arms aren't tucked away, they are actually cradling the stock & pushing it against their shoulder. The front of the gun is either on a rest or a bipod so no reason to hold it there.

Depends. With a good rest setup, holding the rifle is superfluous.

Many benchrest shooters shoot free recoil, where the only contact is light cheek pressure to locate the head to scope, and the trigger.

For a rifle that recoils more, you add shoulder pressure, but the rests still hold the rifle. Off hand can be used to squeeze the rear bag for elevation adjustments, adjust the front rest, whatever.

Minimizing the different ways you can screw the shot up is usually the way to go.

I use my left fist under the back of the stock to adjust the elevation if that make sense? Or manipulate the rear bag if using one.

I try my best NOT to understand bench rest shooters. I'm afraid of what might happen if I did...

Good info and I have a better understanding now.

In rimfire benchrest competition the only part of the rifle I'm going to touch is the 1oz trigger. I don't even want to breathe on it once I'm squarely sighted. It is not a marksmanship competition; it is technical accuracy, period.
