I am asking because I saw some recent threads about installing a muzzle device and the difference between shims, crush nuts, etc.

If I don't care about recoil and just want maximum accuracy with a single pull of the trigger, is the best option to have no brake installed?
I have a brake on my .300 Win. Mag. and on my 6mmBr, and the brake does not affect the point of impact on either rifle. The brake reduces recoil on both rifles. Both brakes were installed by professionals who were detail oriented. My .300 Win. Mag. brake was installed by HS Precision and my 6mmBr brake was installed by kcstott, a member on this site. Your results may vary, but these are my results.

Look at all the rifles at the world class benchrest competitions, there are no muzzle device except for adjustable weights on short range rimfire rifles.

If accuracy is your primary interest then a muzzle device isn't needed or wanted.

Sir Issac Newton figured this recoil thing out hundreds of years ago. i.e. more mass on the gun=less recoil. As for accuracy: I don't think Isaac had an opinion of that.

Pretty sure Bart Sauter shot his 600 yard record with a tuner on.
I know 1000 yd records have been shot without them.
I was told by a respected LR BR gunsmith and record holder that if my rifle is tuned, a tuner isn’t going to help.

If you are talking about a muzzle break and not a tuner then no, it will not make it more accurate.

I have a couple with BOSS. I adjusted them till both rifles printed very tight groups from my bench. I have a fixed brake on another rifle that is beer can close but no fun on paper. ymmv

In my opinion an HBAR AR15 rifle in 5.56 doesn't need a brake to reduce muzzle rise during firing (that is a 20" heavy barrel profile) I've shot more X-cross service rifle matches that I can remember and during the rapid sitting or rapid prone I've never had a recoil muzzle rise issue getting back on target quickly - now with an M1 Garand in 30'06 its a different story.

A high quality barrel mounted correctly shooting match ammo will be more important than with or w/o muzzle brake. In the pic below I shot 1 moa off the bench with both uppers which have WOA 20" HBAR 1/7 for shooting VLD ammo at 600 yards. That is a true controlled test to answer OP's question. At my age now I need the scope to see clearly. Without the scope the rest is now moot because of my eye sight.

I use one of these because it's super light and short https://www.strikeindustries.com/shop/warhog-comp.html

I also have a heavier AR Stoner clone brake that was like $15

These brakes will womp people next to you though, it directs the blast sideways very well. Not pleasant to be next to.

I don't have them on my rifles and whenever I go to the range I hope against all hope I won't be stuck next to a shooter who uses one.
