    Guns without serial numbers

How do you transfer or PPT a firearm without a serial number? Is one assigned to it by the FFL? How is this accomplished?

Transfers I've done with no serial guns are simply to log it into my bound book with a "No S/N" in the box where the serial number normally goes.

But I'm not in California...not sure if a CA licensee can do a transfer on a no-serial gun.

    What did you get??

BP - The JC Higgins shotgun that I recently purchased was old enough that it had no serial number. In doing the paperwork the FFL dealer showed the clerk a section on the ATF form 4473 and CA DROS form for dealing with that specific situation.

Of course that was buying from the LGS, but it should be the same for a PPT...

I was looking at a much older shotgun. It didn't have any serial numbers. I was trying to figure out how it could be legally transferred.

I have some long guns with no serial numbers. A Stevens .410 bolt action shotgun and a Winchester model 67 .22 rifle.

I bought the Winchester from a LGS, the lack of a serial wasn't a problem.

My Mossburg was purchased from R & S Auto for those who remember them in the early 60`s. cash and carry, no serial numbers just the model number.

Classic pre registration unlike "ghost" guns do not require serial #'s. Generally old shotguns do have some form of # under the front forearm.

I have an old Remington 521T with no serial number (pre-GCA 68). You just DROS it like any other legal firearm. The dealer typed in "NVS" (no visible serial number) in the computer.
