Stack On Gun Safe - Adding shelves?

    Hi y'all,

The safe forum is dead, so thought I'd post here. I purchased this: https://www.amazon.com/Stack-GCB-8RT...AXVJF7GQE4P27D only for storing my ammo, not for my firearms. I know it's not that great of a safe.

How can I go about adding more shelves inside?

    Thank You
    Thanks,
    Emil

I did that for an ammo cabinet a long time ago, a 10 gun Stack on cabinet.

I quickly outgrew it and now I only keep specialty and defense ammo in it.

I built a frame out of 1/2" ply for the top and bottom, and MDF for the sides and shelves. Attached them all with L brackets.

Cut everything and pre-fit and drill holes for the brackets outside the cabinet, then just assemble it inside the cabinet. It has worked well and holds all the weight I can fit on the shelves with no problem. There is no back to the frame, just a top/bottom and two sides. I also anchored the frame to the back of the gun cabinet, with a couple of L brackets.

Take note of the notch I had to cut out of the front of one shelf to allow the cabinet bar lock to move freely. Don't forget to do this, and never stack ammo there allowing it to overhang the notch or you can lock yourself out of the cabinet!

THIS IS THE BACK OF THE TOP OF THE SHELF BOX SHOWING THE ANCHOR TO THE STEEL CABINET

I have a Stack-on just for holding some mags and it turned out to be a better more reliable safe than my high dollar Cannon safe. On the cannon safe the locking mechanism broke inside when I tried to open it one day, so now I can't get into the safe lol. The Stack-on works every time and it was the cheapest out of the bunch.

I have a similar safe and I did basically what skyhawk did. I already had 1" angle aluminum and scrap plywood, drilled holes and mounted with pop rivets. I remember trying to buy a shelf already made, but probably spend more time looking for one than the time it took to make it. And you can build it to your exact dimensions

cut some 1/2 ply the depth of the safe 10" high then cut shelves that fit wall to wall put the first parts against the wall glue on the top edge and drop a shelf on. Then glue 2 more legs on and the next shelf etc no screws/drilling hassles. If you don't have a saw Home Depot or Lowes can cut it for you.

I got one with the shelves. They have a center divider, but it's too help with adaptability. If I take out the shelves on one side I have room for several long guns. That cabinet is relegated to ammo only since I have a dedicated gun room in my house.

I'm glad to see skyhawk stores "beer nuts" in there too. Never know when your gonna want a snack. Haha.

Stack on box set up is nice.

Those beer nuts are delicious But now that container is half filled with 100% silica cat litter and has holes drilled in the lid, it is a giant dessicant.

I have enough ammo to completely pack about ten of those cabinets now Those pics are about 8 years old. Now I only keep odd ball ammo and defense ammo in that cabinet. Everything else is stored on large warehouse shelves.

I was going to get one of those Stack-On cabinets and ended up with a job site box and locks. Box was $200 at Home Depot. Locks were $24.

                        shelves

I used some super magnets from amazon. 95# load, set 4 and place shelf on top. Some have rings that you can drive a screw through to make more secure. This eliminated a frame taking up space inside.

                            It’s just a box

Do you want fixed or adjustable?

Fixed - cheap way is to cut a shelf that fits inside
Use screws and screw through the body into the shelf
Pan head screws would be my choice

You can always buy a track at depot
                            Wood or metal

Make shelves to fit the dimensions.

Material all depends on budget and weight requirement
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                            (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

Many ways to skin this cat.

                              I like SkyHawk's set up.

fixed: I'd consider making ledges for the shelves out of angle iron or aluminum Then pop-rivet them to the sides and back wherever you want a shelf. See a metal yard scrap pile for cheap materials. I'd avoid particle board. Make shelves out of something that won't sag like 1" wooden boards or ply.

Great time to add LED Strip lights.

                              Have fun.
