Those are p mag dust covers, which also prevent distortion to polymer feed lips during prolonged storage of loaded mags

If you are loading .556 or .223 pick up a Caldwell speed loader, you will thank me later.

It loads 5 rounds at a time with one push of the handle.

Loading AR and AK mags is hell of a lot better than loading pistol mags!

as stated earlier, the cover pushes down the rds a tiny bit so the pressure is not on the plastic feed lips.

magpul calls them dust covers because calling them anti damage covers would lose sales. Drop a loaded mag and ammo will gush out.

The dust cover takes some pressure off the feed lips. I've not had a problem without using them though, but my gun safe keeps a pretty steady temperature. Might make a difference preventing warping if they went through more wild hot/cold cycles, direct sunlight, etc. No idea.

Speaking of magazine loaders, anyone have experience with this product?

I like that it can also load AK mags in the same device.

I had something similar to that 20 yrs ago. It takes as much time to fill up the loader as it does to load a magazine. I got rid of it after a few months.
