Look at all the threads of people who check their new gun with dummies and can't get them to work and start threads about it and then finally go live fire and the gun works fine.

Guns that won't feed dummies will often work just fine with live ammo and guns that will feed dummies can still have problems with live rounds.
So, dummies are not really any more useful than just being used as snap caps.
Yes, I have seen where the first round will feed but on live fire, the second does not because the action of the slide and feeding is different under recoil.

I am not counting on this check to guarantee function/cycling. I see negligible benefit of checking feeding with snap caps or dummy rounds.

The very first round is also different based on how the gun is manipulated.
Some guns will feed from a locked back slide/bolt when the slide/bolt is released while others need to have the bolt/slide withdrawn all the way back against the hard stop and then released from the hand withdrawing them.

            Use a Dry Fire Mag.

Or spend the big bucks and get a virtual range. There's a few companies out there that make them, but they'll run you between $2K and $15K. However, you'll make that up quickly in ammo savings. They're so fun I'll bet you save that much in ammo in one year or less.

No range here, I simply use the back yard.
