    Scope mount for SKS?

Are there any good ones out there that will work nicely? Prefer avoiding using a chassis for it.

Honest answer: No, the majority of scope mount options compromise the strengths of the SKS.

Putting a decent set of peep sights does help though.

There are no "good ones". The top cover replacement mounts don't hold zero.

It's a great weapon as is. One of my favorite guns to shoot!!

I like it as-is as well, but have an itch to put a fixed magnified optic on it.

What about the ones that tap into the receiver?

They end up to high above the normal cheek weld. Also if the scope hangs over the top of the bolt carrier shells will hit it.

I was looking to put a compact fixed 4x on it so it wouldn't hit.

Was hoping there was a similar clamp on system that the Swiss K31.

I have two different SKS scope mounts that I have used over the years.

Started with a B-Square mount. Used a fastener through the takedown lever hole, and two tapered screws that drove the mount down firmly into the receiver. It held zero. But you had to remove everything in order to remove the bolt to clean properly, and I needed to replace the takedown lever when I decided to stop using it.

Later I used a 'Scout' scope mount, that mounted in place of the sight leaf. It came with two bases, one long enough to use a long eye relief scope on it, the other shorter one that worked well with a red dot. I was dis-satisfied with the long mount, the red dot mount was great.

I eventually removed the 'Scout' mount and re-installed the sight leaf.

I still have both mounts here, plus the little 4X Simmons scope that came with the B-Square mount.

Choate mount works like a champ. It takes a little smithing to install. Mounts to the receiver side plate. Holds zero well. Ejected casings do clip the mount at the top but does not create a problem. Biggest problem is stripper clips will not work. Alternatives are available in a free state.
