    Home Carry Tips

With recent events, I think it would be best to home carry. Prior I had been constantly in and out of the house, mostly working outside the home in a gun free zone and without a CCW it wasn’t practical. Now I am home 24/7. Any tips?

Not really. I mean, yes, but most guys have a drawer full of holsters that they will never put on again.

Needs to be comfortable enough that you will wear it all the time. A good belt, not a cheap one, the belt is a lot to do with how comfortable it is to wear.

It was that simple for me
I have in the waist band and out of the waist band holsters
Carrying outside the waist band is much more comfortable
My conceal in the waist band holsters vary from kydex to leather and you have to find the right one for you

On my home gun range, I carry a drop leg holster, in the house it varies

don't carry in the small of your back. If you have doubts, watch the Texas church shooting victims

At home I can stick my .38 snub in a cheapie Uncle Mikes IWB holster and carry comfortably in my PJ’s.

Seriously, how do you NOT carry at home? I get yelled at all the time for leaving different guns out - holsters plopped wherever.

J frame 38 in a pocket holster. Curious if anybody around here is rocking a rifle at the ready with current events. I don't think we're there yet.

Almost always home carry, either Glock 29 in owb or 43X in back pocket. If I know I'll be in the front yard, I'll carry the 43X, otherwise it's the 29. Try a few different holsters to see what works best for you. Practice drawing from holster with an unloaded mag in the gun. Good luck

My xds 45 is next to me in my IWB. I was out earlier otherwise I’d definitely keep it in OWB. Kydex rig would be best. If you’re not used to it and using leather practice a bunch, they draw slow. I like my drop leg sadaeiland, now that I’m gonna be home a couple weeks I’m pulling it out

Belt definitely is big, for ccw I like my beltslide ratchet belts, 1/4” clicks are great. But if you’re home use a plastic core competition type Velcro belt, I use money any time my short is untucked even if I’m out in public and not carrying. Just makes it great. I also love it when going through any security as usually they don’t make you take it off.

I like those holsters. I put a small piece of skateboard non-skid on the top of the thumb release lever. Easier to find and release in an emergency.

Yes, but wait, there's more: The Four Rules of gun safety

                            1. [Act as if] All guns are always loaded
                            2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you're not willing to destroy
                            3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target
                            4. Know your target and what is behind it

Always practice safe gun handling. You should check to see if a round is in the chamber every time you pick up your weapon, even if you know you just unloaded it.

Buy some "snap caps"/dummy rounds to practice and become experienced at loading your gun's magazine, and for "dry fire" practice. Dry fire practice with an unloaded weapon will show you how much you can inadvertently move the muzzle off target if you jerk the trigger.

Look on You Tube for videos of Jeff Cooper explaining the "surprise break" and the "compressed surprise break", one of the better techniques used to achieve a smooth trigger pull that won't move the muzzle off target.

Practice like this can be done without the use of live ammo, and in the privacy of your own home.

                            Good luck to you.
                            .

If you’re not carrying, have guns around the home within a close proximity.
