Just toying with the idea of getting a CCW in Riverbank (stanislaus county). Any one done this recently? Any issues? Approved or denied? Does it help if I get a letter of recommendation from a LEO friend of mine?

Try that as a resource. They list StanCounty as 0.13% issuance, so it doesn't look promising.

Quite literally, if you're a farmer in Stanislaus County, then CCW is borderline shall issue from the Sheriff's Office. If you aren't, then you'll really need to articulate why you need one. And it doesn't hurt to have friends. It's not always what you know, but who you know.
Also, not sure if you've been by their website lately, but they are not processing any new CCW apps for a while. It's on the homepage.
