    Firearm Use In OHV Area?

Pardon the noob question but I can't seem to find a definitive answer online. What I'd like to know is:

Can one bring/use firearms in an OHV area such as Cal City?

The few times I've ridden there, I've seen countless ammo casings everywhere, from shotgun shells to 9mm to .45s. However, I also can't find anything that says it is in fact legal to shoot guns in the area. Can someone please provide more info?

    Thanks in avance!

Depends on the OHV area. You will have to check with the agency that manages the land. BLM or Forest service are a maybe. California State Parks no weapons.

USFS indicates you may open carry in all National Forest Areas, loaded, no round in chamber. They have pamphlets for PROOF, to the ignorant ones out there.

Most areas are legal for hunting but not shooting targets.

          You mean this pamphlet?

          Seems pretty restricted to me.

you figure that on a weekend and/or holiday its probably not a good idea but take a look at where you see the casings.

If you see them in open land with no backdrop you may want to GTFO. Those are the yahoos that dont understand what is required to shoot out there

If you see them close to a solid high backdrop then most likely ok.

We used to shoot a lot over in Barstow but if I remember correctly it was prohibited in the OHV area around Stoddard Wells. I guarantee that a lot of the guys that bring their RV's on a weekend and on holidays bring their guns as well and shoot there but again just pay attention to you backdrop and ensure you have one.

We had a fairly private spot east of the 247 where you could shoot out to 1000 yards but that area is limited by the legal areas to shoot based on BLM mapping. A lot of times I would see CHP driving the back roads as well.

Regardless follow safety protocol and dont just shoot anywhere. Find a good backdrop and leave it cleaner than you found it.

You will be much happier later, if you check first to see who has jurisdiction for the area.

I've had great interaction with USFS, not so much with BLM.
                  Then said He unto them...
"and he that hath no 1911 designed by my servant John Moses Browning,
let him sell his garment and buy one."
And they said, "Lord, behold, here are two Glocks."
And He said unto them, "Meh, it's a good start."

                  Luke 22:36-38 (somewhat paraphrased)

Remember, you must, for the safety of OHV users and anyone else downrange, SHOOT INTO A BACKSTOP.

Use a berm, a hillside, a mountain, but USE A BACKSTOP.

Do not put targets on top of a backstop. I have seen idiots shooting glass bottles set on top of a berm. Besides the issue of broken glass, where do the projectiles go? That's right. DO NOT DO THIS.
