Hi
I live in OC and am a first time purchaser of a handgun and the transaction has already been approved and delivered. I have filled out the 4473 completely and correctly but upon returning home after the delivery I realized that the Place of Birth on the DROS customer copy that the store gave me was incorrectly put as Country/Region B (while my actual place of birth is Country/Region A, as I correctly put down on my 4473). The store clerk who processed my DROS clearly did a typo on the online system on the Place of Birth item.
Now the gun store told me it’s not a big deal to do nothing, but if I insist on correcting this, they have to cancel the current DROS with my gun returned to them, do a new DROS and wait for another 10 days.
I spoke with a CA firearm attorney over the phone and he said this kind of clerical error should not be a problem since I purchased the gun legally and that the Place of Birth is not a critical determinant for my eligibility. to clarify, I am a US Legal Permanent Resident born in a foreign country and I hold the Real ID version of the CA driver’s license with a spotless record on all areas of firearm eligibility.
Of course I would hate another 10 days of wait, while I also don’t want this hick-up to cause an issue with the system, especially considering that when I purchase my next gun in the future, the corrected place of birth will have to be different from the current one...
Please let me know your suggestions. Thanks
Joe
