Paint plastic grips to look like wood

    Hello all,

Down to brass taxes, I have a plastic STI lower grip, standard black that comes with all lower receivers. I want to 'church' up my grips and stain or paint or coat (not sure the best process, why I ask) the grip to resemble a wood pattern, all suggestions are appreciated. Also if there is a place you recommend that does it, please post it. I live between Sacramento and San Francisco.

Try Sagisi Customs in Milpitas. Ryan is phenomenal and a Calgunner too.

I suggest a process called hydro dipping
It's not expensive and can be done at home they also have woodgrain patterns I did a entire riffile and then clear coated it with a spray dura coat its held up pretty good you can go on you tube to see how it's done
There is a video by 2a gunsmithing and firearms were he is doing exactly what you want good luck

I can't imagine wood grips would be that expensive would they? I'm not too familiar on the parts for that gun. But I can't imagine them being that outrageous.

Look at car restoration sites or youtube. Auto makers have been doing this on dashboards and window trim pieces since the 30's.

This is in SD, but there are a few examples on this page that might be what you're looking for.

STI's do not have removable grips in the way that typical 1911's do.
STI's have a complete metal or plastic magazine well, grips and triggerguard unit that attaches to the receiver.
