    S & W Letter of Authenticity

I have an old S&W revolver, a nickel-plated pre-Model 10 from 1931. If I get a Letter of Authenticity from S&W, what additional information will they provide?

I'm much more interested in the revolver's personal history; a nickel-plated gun would have been a great expense for many during the Great Depression. S&W also offers an Historical Letter too, but you have to get the L of A first.

I had it done on a SW #1 years ago. They provided the date it was sent to the original purchaser, and the name of the company that made the original purchase from the factory. The letter also included a complete description of the revolver in its original configuration as shipped from S&W.

What does it cost? If it's under $100 I'd probably do it for a gun like that. Pretty sure that was called an M&P in blue, I wonder if they refer to a nickel plate the same?

I have a 1956 snubbie in blue, I'm interested in seeing what you find out here.
Buy made in USA whenever possible.

As I recall it was $50. That was a few years ago, so it may be different now.

Letter of Authenticity = $100 (Roy Jinks)

Historical Letter = If they find anything they'll contact you about how much, if they don't find anything, no charge.

Unless it is a safe queen investment gun- still NIB, why bother?

            Spend the $100 on Ammo

If a collector- NIB or 98%, the letter will show how it left the factory?
            Blue/ nickel
            Target trigger /combat trigger
            Etc

It’s another way to document why a 98+ gun is worth 3/5 times more than a shooter
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
            (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

I spent the money on a letter for an unusual gun a couple years ago and the letter stated they had no information on the gun and no record of the serial number.

It's not a safe queen; it shoots very nicely. But I may sell it, and thought that a letter might enhance the value. And I'm interested in where it's been. I don't have a ton of money in it, so even with a letter, its total cost would be very low.

                Jeffyhog, that's interesting.

Hand Ejectors in 38 aren't worth a lot of money. They're great as stash guns though.

Load it with regular pressure rounds and put it in a strategic location in your house such as your garage.
