Does anybody use a Ruger 10/22 extended mag release? Or is this just sort of a gimmick? It looks like it would be very helpful. Mine has the old style release that you have to push down on upwards into the gun. It's really kind of a pain.

I installed an aftermarket release (don't remember the brand)on my 1970's 10/22. It didn't work well. It would stick, and had to fiddle with it to make it work. Gave it to a friend, and reinstalled the original.
Maybe the Ruger one will work?Comment

IMO, only favorable factor regarding the Ruger factory magazine release is that it follows the lines of the rifle making it aesthetically pleasing. I use the KIDD magazine release, it flows with the lines of the rifle and it is more functional. Here is a link to it, and it is only $35. https://www.kiddinnovativedesign.com...ries_c_25.htmlsigpicComment

Well, I like them.
I have numerous 10/22 Rugers and installed extended releases on all of
the older models, the newer 10/22 Rugers I bought came with them.

BP, we have a couple of these. They work great.

You cup your hand under the mag well and drag the extended release tab forward just a little with the inside of your pinky or ring finger and the mag drops into your hand.
So easy!
I put them on all my 10/22s except my original old Sporter model.
The extended releases are original equipment on most new 10/22s starting about 5 years ago.Last edited by ojisan; 02-29-2020, 6:35 PM.

There are a number of "extended" releases (532 listings when I searched ebay...) - there's the simple "stock" Ruger bar that sticks down - I had to keep that one on a Archangel QBD to fit the stock, and a couple bullpup style 10/22's. I have a bag of them somewhere. There are wider similar "paddle" styles, some with custom laser etching.
There are the really long ones that extend under the trigger guard, wasn't a fan when I tried that type. Didn't really like that you sort of have to push "down" on them to actuate.
Check out Ruger part #90598 - I've been happy with these on pistol grip or standard type stocks, you push forward on the "ears" that protrude beyond the forward contour of the trigger guard with your trigger finger, don't have to change your grip to drop a mag. The contour follows a stock Ruger trigger group guard, might not fit other trigger groups?
Hope that gives you some ideas!Comment

The one I put on my wife's 10/22 works good, if I ever do get a 10/22 for myself I will put one on it to.Comment

I put one on my rifle many years ago. Forgot the brand. I like itA 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
