I shot my ar pistol today and my bolt kept hanging up on the mag follower. Mags are gen 3 magpuls. Was very frustrating as I kept having to press down on the mag follower (while it still was in the gun because of the maglock) to let the bolt go forward. Any advice on why this is happening? Do I need a heavier buffer? Also noticed my shell casings were ejecting forward at a 1 and 2 o'clock angle. Upper is a ddmk18.

I think we need a better explanation of the problem.
The magazine follower should not be protruding high enough to stop the bolt. When you fire the last shot in the magazine the magazine follower pushes up the bolt catch in the rear of the mag well to stop the bolt. Pushing the bolt release on the left side of the gun should force the bolt catch and magazine follower down, allowing the bolt to go forward onto an empty chamber.
Was this the first time firing the gun? Was it well lubed? Is the bolt catch still intact? Did the gun malfunction while it had rounds still in the magazine? Or is your problem that, when the magazine is empty and the bolt is locked back, the bolt release won't cam down the bolt catch and magazine follower to allow the bolt to go forward so you are having to reach into the ejection port and manually push down the magazine follower to release the bolt catch?
In regard to ejection angle, having a shell deflector can complicate analyzing ejection angle. Does the gun cycle properly? What weight buffer do you have in your pistol now?Last edited by redcliff; 02-24-2020, 4:02 AM."You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Youtube some videos on how the bolt catch should work and see if that's the problem. Please make sure to disconnect the upper from the lower and not use live ammo while testing.
My goto remedy for everything is Youtube first, then forums for guns and cars.Comment

It has the juggernaut tactical fixed mag device installed on it so there's no bolt release. It was the 1st time firing it since when I had 1st put it together. Doesn't malfunction when there is rounds in the the magazine. I guess the bolt is suppose to go forward on the last shot so I can crack the upper from the lower receiver to eject the mag but the bolt just gets hung up on the magazine follower. Gun is well lubed I always make sure they are when I go out for target practice.I think we need a better explanation of the problem.
