What are the benefits of dry lube other than minimal dirt retention? I use a combination of gun grease / gun oil on all my weapons.

No. I use tungsten disulfide or molybdenum disulfide. Either dry powder or mixed with a little synthetic oil or grease. It's the slipperiest stuff on the planet.

              Graphite is great on locks

Good when hunting in -0 temps

              Every lube has a place

White lithium axel grease is good
Mobil 1 or slick 50 is good.

In the desert a lot of lube melts off or dries out. Or worst yet, cakes with dirt

                Change frequently in dusty areas

I used it once it works but it was kinda like MEH.
Regular old 3 in 1 oil works in cold.
Was watching a vid on youtube Iraq8888 guy and they were saying how a particular semi auto wasnt reliable but the guys granpa only used WD40 to clean it and never had a problem they went go figure.

That's why molybdenum disulfide or tungsten disulfide is so good. Besides being the best lubricant out there, it's inert, dry, and its particle size is so small, it gets worked into all the micro pores of a material and simply stays there. You can't get it off without a LOT of effort. It's real.

A pretty knowledgeable guy on another forum, might be here said never use graphite on anything.

Dri-Slide contains molybdenum disulfide and graphite, with a solvent, I think. I have used it for (non-firearms) applications where a lot of dirt was expected and it worked well enough. It's not as good as an oil or grease in clean conditions, but it's a lot more practical in some situations.

I burnish tungsten disulfide on feed ramps, 22 bolts and receiver internals. It adds lubricity to the metal. Then use gun oil, grease or bike lube as necessary. It seems to also make things easier to clean with regarding to wiping out carbon fouling.
