Seecamp is a terrible gun for a newbie. I have one in my pocket right now, but its a beast to shoot. I can only get one finger on the grip, so after about 10-15 rounds my trigger finger is beat up from the trigger guard.

A very bad idea. It appears your father is not a "gun guy" in any sense of the word. If he is not interested in learning to shoot and carry a gun safety, you should under no circumstances help create a potentially illegal and dangerous situation. If he is willing to do it the right way, of course, but if not.....................Last edited by 003; 02-10-2020, 12:46 PM.Comment

Amazing gun, I loved mine and shot it well. BUT a bad idea for your dad. The CA legal model has a horrible safety btw.Comment

Terrible idea, terrible gun.
1. You get in much less trouble illegally carrying if the gun is registered in your own name (not your son's). Though you could do a voluntary mail-in registration to your da if you bought it.
2. Seecamp is a not a good gun IMO as it's just hard to shoot with adult sized hands. If he wants a tiny pocket carry, get him a Sig P238 or a Kahr p380 or a Colt Detective Special.Originally posted by johnthomas...The hardest part getting rid of crap is getting started.Comment

If you do decide that you want to get him a gun you might think about the Ruger LCP in 380 ACP, LC9 a 9 mm or LC9S , in 9 mm but striker-fired, so theoretically would have a shorter/ better trigger pull (and maybe more room inside the trigger guard?) line of Ruger pistols.
And I think they recently came out with a .22 caliber version so your dad could get his wish, if he wants to stick with a .22.
For some people spending lots of money ammunition to become proficient with a small pistol is hard for their wallet and brain so going to 22 caliber allows those folks the possibility to get lots of training in and become a better shot, eventually.Last edited by sealocan; 02-10-2020, 2:20 PM.Comment

My suggestion would be a Charter or Taurus snub. You already know he’s not going to practice and no reason to spend on a Seecamp. With a heavy trigger less chance of shooting himself during pocket carry.Originally posted by ysr_racerPlease don't bring logic and reason into an interwebs discussion

Terrible idea.
And, don't get him a revolver at all if he's in the habit of using his middle finger on the trigger. That puts his index finger right where it shouldn't be.Let us not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless when facing them. - Rabindranath Tagore

First, assuming he is allowed to have a gun, has a permit carry, etc...
Get a reputable gun. Perhaps one with a larger trigger guard. Take him to the range and rent a bunch of different guns to see which one(s) fit him the best. While you’re they’re, teach him how to shoot and get him interested in a class.
